In an unsurprising move, the NHL announced a start time change for Lightning vs. Red Wings on Sunday, Jan. 21. The game will now be played at 7:00 PM ET instead of 5:00 PM ET.
If you’re a fan of all Detroit sports teams, you don’t really need an explanation, but for those who aren’t, here’s why (also mentioned in DRW’s Tweet):
The Detroit Lions are hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that same day in a Divisional Round of the playoffs at Ford Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM ET. Obviously the NHL slides its schedule, and not the NFL.
All that being said, Sunday is shaping up to be a wild one in downtown Detroit. If you have plans to attend either game (or both), get ready for a rush and packed bars/restaurants.
