Open Thread Day 13: Roll on Roller Coaster

The roller coaster continues. Yesterday three of the four teams who lost game one rebounded and found ways to win game two and even up the series. Can the trend continue or will teams take a 2-0 lead into the pivotal game three.

Here’s what’s on tap for today’s games. We’ll use this as an open thread for today’s games.

Arizona Coyotes (7) at Colorado Avalanche (2)

Rogers Place, Edmonton

Best of 7: Colorado leads 1-0

Time: 2:00pmET

TV: NHL NETWORK, SN360, ALT, FS-A PLUS, FS-A

Team Sites: Mile High Hockey, Five for Howling

Colorado may not have scored until the third period of game one, but they pretty much dominated Arizona from the opening faceoff. Arizona is going to need to figure out how to generate some offense early on in this one or it could be more of the same today.

Montreal Canadiens (8) at Philadelphia Flyers (1)

Scotiabank Arena, Toronto

Best of 7: Philadelphia leads 1-0

Time: 3:00pmET

TV: NBCSN, CBC, SN, TVAS, MBCSP

Team Sites: Broad Street Hockey , Habs Eyes on the Prize

Despite losing game one, Montreal continues to give their opponents a tough time, especially Carey Price who seems to have found his previous All World form. The Canadiens do need to find some more consistent offense if they are going to win some games against Philly instead of just hang with them and give them a hard time.

Vancouver Canucks (5) at St. Louis Blues (4)

Rogers Place, Edmonton

Best of 7: Vancouver leads 1-0

Time: 6:30 pm ET

TV: , NBCSN, CBC, SN, FS-MW

Team Sites: St. Louis Game Time, Nucks Misconduct

Vancouver took it to the defending champions in game one, using the movement and speed to help wear on the Blues early and pushing the offense in the third. That said, St. Louis did look a lot more like the Cup winning team in this one then they did through the round robin games. It will be interesting to see if the Blues can find that next gear or will Vancouver take another step towards legitimate Cup contender.

New York Islanders (6) at Washington Capitals (3)

Scotiabank Arena, Toronto

Best of 7: New York leads 1-0

Time: 8:00 pm ET

TV: , NBCSN, SN, TVAS, NBCSWA, MSG, MSG+

Team Sites: Jasper’s Rink, Lighthouse Hockey

In game one T.J. Oshie staked the Capitals to a 2-1 lead going into the third period, but the Islanders just kept coming and ultimately won 4-2. Washington certainly has the talent to win but getting past this Islanders team that just seems to grow in confidence after every game is going to be difficult.

Calgary Flames (6) at Dallas Stars (3)

Rogers Place, Edmonton

Best of 7: Series tied 1-1

Time: 10:30 pm ET

TV: , NBCSN, CBC, SN, FS-SW+

Team Sites: Matchsticks & Gasoline, Defending Big D

In the only game three of the day, Dallas looks to build on their last minute game winner last night after blowing a two goal lead just a few minutes earlier.  Dallas has started to find some life in this series and they will need to continue to build on that and get past a feisty Calgary team that is more than game.
