So… shots fired…
No wonder we saw Edvinsson going all out in last night’s 2-1 victory over the Pens – that was probably his last high-profile chance to make himself visible in good ways, and that’ll go for the majority of the players tonight. Not that everyone will be cut before Saturday, but I think after tonight we will see MOST guys not expected to be on the Opening Night roster trimmed and either assigned, waived, or released. Did Edvinsson do enough to warrant one more look in Saturday’s “dress rehearsal”? I think so…
Last night featured our top talent, so I’m expecting the B-squad tonight. Of course, all eyes will be on Nate Danielson. ND29 has looked every bit the NHLer so far thru the pre-season, arguably more-so than some guys we already have pencilled in on the roster. He’s still a long-shot to make the Opening Night roster, but he can continue to make decisions hard on Yzerman and Lalonde with a good showing tonight. If he proves he deserves one more look on Saturday’s roster… who knows what can happen.
I’m also looking for Lyon to get sole duties in net tonight. Reimer took all 60 minutes last night, and did well against the Pittsburgh understudies. It makes the most sense for Lyon to get the same chance tonight, in a hostile environment, against what will theoretically be the top lines for the Leafs. If he shows well, Saturday could be VERY interesting indeed.
