Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde announced Wednesday that Patrick Kane will make his debut Thursday, December 6th when the Wings host the San Jose Sharks:
It’s been a long road to recovery for the 35-year-old star winger after undergoing a hip-resurfacing
The last game Kane suited up for was back in May, when the New York Rangers lost game seven of the first round in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That game was a 4-0 shutout in favor of the New Jersey Devils.
Making a full comeback from this type of procedure is no easy feat. In fact, it’s nearly impossible to bounce back and return to previous form. Kane will be the third NHL player EVER to return to a lineup following hip resurfacing. Other players include Edjovanovski (2014) and Nicklas Backstrom (2022).
The expectation is that Kane will slot into the second line on the opposite side of his old pal Alex DeBrincat. Kane is expected to have his minutes limited as he eases back into NHL play.
