Playoff Scoreboard Watch: Put me in, Coach

We’ve got one game four down and one to go still tonight. This is always a big crossroads for the majority of series which are 2-1 at this point. One team could take a deadly lead that changes everything or the other can tie it up and simplify the whole mess into a best of three competition.

LAST NIGHT’S RECAP

Amalie Arena staff spent most of Friday reconditioning a big chunk of the ice surface to make it acceptable to play hockey on before the game started, so that was real fun.

Once the play started, it was all Bolts for the first 40 minutes of the game while they built a 4-0 lead and drove noted angry Karl Urban cosplayer Kristopher Letang closer to ‘Doom’ than ‘Star Trek’. Despite the shitshow not being Matt Murray’s fault, he got pulled as Marc-Andre Fleury started the third. This inspired the Penguins to start a furious comeback attempt that got it back to 4-3 and came very close to tying it up.

Alas, it wasn’t meant to be and now the series sits at 2-2 heading back to Pittsburgh for game 5. The Penguins will be without Trevor Daley, who hurt himself last night and will have a question as to who should start in goal (it should be Murray).

TONIGHT’S ACTION

St. Louis Blues at San Jose Sharks (Game 4) – 7:15 PM EDT – NBC, CBC, TVAS

After a tightly-fought game 1 loss, the Sharks have blown the Blues out of the water in each of the last two games, having not allowed a goal since the first game of the series and dropping 4, then 3 on Brian Elliott in the last two games. The Blues seem to have picked a real bad time to just fall apart.

Why You Care Enough to Watch: In response to the Blues’ inability to score goals, Ken Hitchcock has decided to switch goalies. Since this worked for the Penguins last night, it’ll be sure to work for the Blues. Also, regardless of who you’re rooting for in this series, it’s weird seeing the Sharks having this much fun while making hockey still look so easy during a conference final series. Somebody needs to take them down a peg or two. I guess St. Louis will have to do.
