Preseason Game Preview: Blackhawks at Red Wings

Chicago Blackhawks vs Detroit Red Wings

Detroit, MI – 5 PM

Watch: FSD & NHLN

Listen: Red Wings (1270AM)

The Wings take on the Blackhawks for the second time this preseason, this time on home ice. The first time these teams faced off in Chicago on the 17th, the Wings were shut out 2-0, Teemu Pulkkinen and Mitch Callahan both received game misconducts, and Pulkkinen was hit with a 4 game preseason suspension for his hit on Mike Kostka. The Blackhawks iced their mostly NHL team against the Wings B team comprised of 9 rookies, including Jared Coreau in net for the third period. Since then, the Wings have sent some rookies back to their junior teams and Eaves (sprained ankle and sprained ACL), Kindl (groin) and Gustavsson (groin) are out with injuries.

This morning the Wings assigned 17 players back to Grand rapids. Tomas Jurco, Martin Frk, Andrej Nestrasil, Trevor Parks, Mitch Callahan, Marek Tvrdon, Calle Jarnkrok, David McIntyre, Jeff Hoggan, Gleason Fournier, Ryan Sproul, Brennan Evans, Max Nicastro, Xavier Ouellet, Richard Nedomlel, Thomas McCollum, and Cam Lanigan will all hear to Grand Rapids to prepare for the Griffins training camp which starts tomorrow.

There are only 4 preseason games left, and with only 38 players remaining on the Red Wings roster, the final roster and lines for the regular season are starting to take shape. Adam Almqvist, Nathan Paetsch and Alexei Marchenko are the only remaining defense rookies on the roster. Louis-Marc Aubry, Willie Coetzee, Landon Ferraro, Luke Glendening, Teemu Pulkkinen (serving his 4 game suspension), and Riley Sheahan are the remaining forward rookies on the roster. Petr Mrazek and Jared Coreau are both still on the Wings roster, and it looks like Mrazek will fill in as backup to Jimmy Howard while Jonas Gustavsson is sidelined with a groin injury.

Tracey Myers of CSN tweeted a picture of the rosters, so it looks like we’ll see something like this.

Forwards
Henrik Zetterberg Pavel Datsyuk Justin Abdelkader
Gustav Nyquist Joakim Andersson Tomas Tatar
Luke Glendening Cory Emmerton Mikael Samuelsson
Louis-Marc Aubry Riley Sheahan Landon Ferraro

Defense
Niklas Kronwall Jonathan Ericsson
Nathan Paetsch
Brendan Smith
Adam Almqvist Alexei Marchenko

Goalies
Jimmy Howard
Petr Mrazek

Hopefully the Wings didn’t use up their preseason goal limit all in one game against Boston and can beat Chicago tonight.

Let’s Go Red Wings!
