Red Wings News

Jonas Gustavsson out “quite a while … we’re talking weeks” according to Wings GM Ken Holland | Red Wings Front
Nej! Jonas Gustavsson has dislocated his left shoulder. Petr Mrazek has been called up to replace him.

Red Wings’ Daniel Cleary makes most of opportunity by scoring in season debut | MLive.com
If Dan Cleary is going to be on this roster, I want him to be a productive player. Against the Rangers, he was productive. We’ll see if he remains in the lineup going forward, but, if he helps the Wings win, then his roster spot is justified.

No hearing scheduled for Franzen after Hagelin headshot | ProHockeyTalk
This is a little surprising, I was expecting him to have a hearing.

Mike Babcock asks for consistent officiating after Red Wings lose on power-play goal in OT | MLive.com

NHL News

Jersey sponsorship is ‘coming’ to the NHL | ProHockeyTalk
As long as the advertisements are not as omnipresent as they are on SHL jerseys, then I am fine with whatever the NHL chooses to implement. If they do it like European football clubs, that is fine with me (I agree, United’s Chevy logo is imposing, but most other jerseys are fine). Jersey sponsorship is inevitable, and if Bettman truly wants to turn the NHL into a successful money-making league, then this is the obvious next step for him.

Hope he is OK! You never want to see this happen to anyone.

American League issues rule change after goaltender’s 2-on-0 antics | The Hockey News
Any goaltender who tries to do what David Leggio did will now be given an automatic game misconduct, and the opposing team will be given a penalty shot.

He could probably beat me, even though I’m 6’1″ and weigh double what he does.

Connor McDavid power rankings: Where have all the good teams gone? – SBNation.com
The Blue Jackets‘ injury woes have put them in McDavid contention. I do expect a late-season recovery from Columbus, enough to place them just outside of a playoff position.

Marc-Andre Fleury’s contract and the trouble with paying goalies – CBSSports.com
Goaltenders are harder to value than other players, and are easily overpaid. I would pay Henrik Lundqvist $9 million per season any day of the week, but, I cannot say the same for Fleury, or any other goaltender in the NHL, for that matter.

Westhead: Maple Leafs go to China hoping to mimic Manchester United’s success | TSN
Glory, glory.

Slava Voynov will ask NHL to end suspension; lawyer claims his rights ‘infringed’ | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports
The NHL is going to wait until they are near certain that Voynov either did not commit an offense, or that the offense he committed was not severe before reinstating him. This is clearly a move to avoid the Ray Rice situation the NFL has had to deal with.

NHL one month: Biggest difference-makers | USA Today
Brendan Smith and Danny DeKeyser were both included on this list. I can agree with that, but, if any Wing deserves to be on this list it is Jimmy Howard.

30 Thoughts: It’s not going to be easy for Nolan – Sportsnet.ca
Could Alex Semin be the next player to follow in Kovalchuk’s footsteps and dart to the KHL? It’s a possibility.
