Quick Hits: The Confidence Edition

In Red Wings Land

Michigan’s Quinn Hughes on a possible future with Detroit Red Wings | Freep

“I’ve proven what I can do on the ice, especially against older guys at the World Championship,” Hughes said.

“As I continue to grow I think I can be a two-way guy, too — I like my defensive game. I was only on the ice once at the World Championship for a goal (against) and I think it was South Korea. We won 13-1, so not exactly the game I wanted to get scored on, but I think my defensive game is just as good as my offensive game. So my power-play work, my clean breakouts, I think I can help, my transition with the puck, skating, my zone entries. Just getting the puck up to the forwards, I think I do it really well and fast and then I can chip in offensively.

I would be very happy if the Red Wings selected Quinn Hughes 6th overall later this month. I think he comes off very well in his interview here. He seems confident, but not cocky.

The fact that Jeff Blashill got to coach him at Worlds and Dylan Larkin got to play alongside him is huge. They saw first hand what he can do on the ice, how he acted off the ice and how receptive he was to learning for his coaches and teammates.

Vegas’ top line a disappearing act in Cup Final so far | TSN

I have no idea which game it will be, but at some point you have to image Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith are going to break out. There’s no chance in hell that Gerard Gallant would split the trio up, but maybe he should make some lineup adjustments elsewhere? It would be cool to see Tomas Tatar get into a Stanley Cup Final game.
