Quick Hits: The Damage Edition

In Red Wings Land

Detroit Red Wings were awful in first 10 games. Here’s what went wrong | Freep

Everything?

Are the Detroit Red Wings going to finish the season with eight victories?

That’s the pace they’re on after a 10-game start that has been even worse than expected. The Wings are the only NHL team with only one win. They entered Saturday with the league’s worst goals-against average (4.00), and their inability to score has led to a goals-for average (2.10) that ranks 28th out of 31 teams.

Helene hits on plenty of reasons for the Wings woes, but two of the most prominent are the veterans struggling (specifically Justin Abdelkader) and needing more from Anthony Mantha.

Detroit Red Wings

All-Time: Brett Hull — 60G, 30A, 90Pts.

Active: Patrick Marleau — 25G, 26A, 51Pts.

Past Five Seasons: Brad Marchand — 13G, 14A, 27Pts.

When Hull left Dallas, he ended up in Detroit, which is funny because it’s the other team he absolutely destroyed during his tenure in the NHL. Take a second to bask in that goal total. Two-thirds of his 90 points were goals. Those kind of numbers would be unthinkable today.

Brett Hull rules. The other two guys can go kick rocks.
