Quick Hits: The Svechnikov’s Status Edition

In Red Wings Land

Notes: Wings’ Ericsson feeling better but won’t play Saturday | DetroitRedWings.com

Plenty of notes on the bad luck and string of injuries, illnesses and issues for the Red Wings’ defense in this one, but the last section of the article on Evgeny Svechnikov is a bummer.

“I think he, at one point, really wanted to push to play this year. I don’t know if that’s going to be reality. I think, as he went through it, it looks like it might be a thing where he’s just got to get himself ready for next year, but I don’t know that 100 percent yet, so let’s wait and see how the recovery continues.”

That quote is from Jeff Blashill. It stinks that Svechnikov likely won’t see the ice this season. Tough break for the kid. It’s hard to imagine that he’ll ever live up to his 1st round draft pick status, but hopefully can still be a decent middle-six forward in the future.
