Quick Hits: The 10,000 Calorie Edition

In Red Wing Land

Detroit Red Wings mailbag: Could Henrik Zetterberg be traded? | Freep

Will Henrik Zetterberg be traded? No. Not this season. He’s a Red Wing until he doesn’t want to be anymore.

Now that that’s out of the way… a reader asked Helene if Danny DeKeyser knew where the weight room was. Here is part of her response:

HSJ: Yes. Danny DeKeyser’s issue is that it’s a daily challenge for him to consume enough calorie-dense foods to maintain his weight. Lisa McDowell, the Wings’ nutrionist, has had DeKeyser on as much as a 10,000-calorie a day diet.

Holy hell.

A 10,000-calorie a day diet?!? That’s insane.

I’m no health expert or nutritionist, but the daily calorie intake is what? 2,000-2,500 calories per day? Something like that? I can’t even imagine eating 10,000 calories in a day. I don’t think I could do it.

I’m going to go with “Yes.”

I think the 1999 St. Louis Rams are probably the closest. Kurt Warner came out of nowhere that year to lead them to a Super Bowl victory.
