Quick Hits: The Big Deal Edition

Red Wings News

200 goals is a huge milestone. If he can keep his career pace up, he could hit 400 in about 950 games. That would make him, roughly, a top-100 goal scorer all-time (by raw numbers, not by rate). Other guys just over the 400 mark include John Ogrodnick, Paul Kariya, Shane Doan, Anze Kopitar, and Marian Gaborik. Some guys that just missed include Dave Keon, Marcus Naslund, Daniel Sedin, Marty St Louis, and Boom-Boom Geoffrion. Not bad company to keep, and there’s nothing saying he’d stop around 400. Just to frame what a special goal scorer DeBrincat is.

Around The League

The future direction of the league is always interesting. While this piece doesn’t do much to go in-depth about what conversations will be had, it does at least give us an idea of what’s going to come up – money, money management, how further expansion could bring in more money, and risk to current money forecasts if players are injured in international play.

All sarcasm and cynicism aside, these are important topics and a proper path forward absolutely impacts the success and failure of the League as a whole. The salary cap, international play and that weird 4-nation thing they wanna do, and even expansion are all critical items to discuss and either iron out (gimme 36 teams please!) or scrap and try again (like a mid-season 4-nation tourney). If you’re interested in the long-game, this will be something to keep an eye on.
