Quick Hits: The Don’t Be Scared Edition

Insider Trading: Insider Trading: Shattenkirk likely traded as a rental | TSN (video)

Videos from TSN don’t always play for me south of the border, but this one appears to play just fine. With the trade deadline only a few days away, here’s Bob McKenzie and friends discussing the current situation.

The most interesting non-Red Wings tidbit to come out in the last 24 hours is that Shattenkirk was almost traded three times, but would not agree to a deal with the team that wanted him, which was a part of the deal. Surprisingly (perhaps), Arizona was one of those teams. One of the deals was reportedly 7 years for 42 Million, and Shattenkirk wouldn’t sign that.

The One Way The Red Wings Would Consider Trading Andreas Athanasiou | Will Burchfield, CBS Detroit

Since this article is not too long, I’m not going to excerpt the main section, so please go read it. The basic gist is that in Elliotte Friedman’s latest 30 Thoughts column, he mentioned that teams inquired about Andreas Athanasiou back when he was not getting much ice time.

I’d caution people against reading too much into this, although it makes for an interesting discussion about what it would take to consider trading AA.

To me, nobody is untouchable, but it would have to be a tremendous offer to move him. I mean, if Toronto said “Hey, we just took a whole bunch of mushrooms, and we want to trade you Marner for Athanasiou,” I’d say yes faster than when Kramer settled for unlimited cafe lattes.
