NHL Rumors: Don’t Expect Detroit to Trade Patrick Kane at the Deadline

Even with the Detroit Red Wings in a slide and battling for a playoff, it would be surprising if they moved Patrick Kane at the deadline.

Apparently there’s been a rumor recently that management had met with Kane about a trade – which, given his contract and what we talked about when he signed, duh. But the interesting part from Pagnotta is that there’s supposedly been some understanding of a multi-year commitment from the team. The Wings have been burned by handshake deals before (as I look squarely at a picture of Dan Cleary, not that they’re similar players), and while I think Kane’s play to start his tenure here has been worthy of another season or two I think everyone involved needs to be really careful about what’s realistic and how Kane is holding up.

Wallstedt was called up Sunday by the Wild and could make his much-anticipated first NHL start Wednesday in Dallas.

I think a lot of us are going to keep one eye on the Wild when they face the Stars on Wednesday. Not that it changes anything immediately, and Cossa may still have the higher ceiling, but in a world where our starting goalies are Lyon, Husso, and Reimer this feels relevant whether it actually is or not.
