Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill talks accountability, growth – Detroit Free Press
Jeff Blashill talks about how he’s changed in his two years of coaching and also lays out pretty clearly why exactly players tend to lose ice time, matching what made sense all of last year. He even specifically mentions why Sheahan didn’t get benched. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the follow-up question on whether he considered giving Sheahan a rest from the rising pressure to score rather than considering it a punishment.

Sabres and Eichel Agree on an Eight Year $80 Million Extension – Die By The Blade
This is such a weird-but-understandable deal here with Eichel. I personally don’t think he’s worth this, but he’s not so far off that it’s laughable (plus it sets the stage for another comparison to Matthews when that extension has to be worked out and should be either hilarious that Eichel forced the Leafs to spend so much or that the Sabres ended up not having Lou Lamoriello working their deal for them). It’s also a case of the guy having to be the franchise face and having to be paid like that. I just don’t think he’s worth it, but there’s a whole lot of room for me to be wrong here.
