Four Lines You Can Trust: HSJ

Helene St. James is out with a piece today that focuses on Detroit’s depth and scoring abilities. Here’s what Derek Lalonde had to say:

“Sometimes people just look at depth as four lines that can score,” Lalonde said after practice at Kraken Community Iceplex. “I look at it like it’s four lines you can trust, especially on the road. You don’t get exposed in matchups, you can maybe go a little more in rhythm rather than trying to be strict and chasing matchups.”

And a tidbit from Perron:

“You just trust what the coaches do,” Perron said. “You want to see some consistency at the same time — any time you change lines, usually it creates a spark. Guys get excited to play with new linemates and we go along with whatever Newsy comes up with.”

My take: I’ve been pretty vocal about the scoring depth of this team. It’s unlike anything we’ve had in quite some time. I agree with the idea that they have four lines they can rotate and trust. It’s a key attribute for any team with playoff aspirations, like the one we’re seeing this season.

Stadium Series Official

Nothing much to add other than the NHL has confirmed it will be CBJ vs Detroit at Ohio Stadium next March.

Pricy Expansion: The Hockey News

How much will it cost an owner to build a new NHL team? It’s going to be a lot. Proteau penned an article about the topic, with this quote from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman:

“Whether it’s $2 billion, or $2.5 billion, or a billion-seven, I think that’s the range I believe the owners would want to be in if we were going to consider expansion,” Bettman told Roustan before cautioning against the notion expansion is imminent. “We’re not in expansion mode. I’m not telling the world ‘File your applications, and we’ll pick the best one,’ because we’re not there yet.”

Loosely translated: Money talks.
