Red Wings Pay Remembrance to Victims of Lokomotiv Crash

I’ve had this in my head for about the last week not really looking forward to the one-year anniversary of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl crash which ended in 44 deaths, including those of former Red Wings Ruslan Salei, Brad McCrimmon, and Stephan Liv. I’ve spent the entire week worrying about what I should say on such a grim anniversary. Here today, I’m still drawing a blank. I wish it hadn’t happened. I hope the families of those who were lost are doing well and are that much closer to finding peace. I pray future tragedies like this can be prevented.

The Red Wings posted a story this morning called ‘We Remember’, in which they pay their honors to the three former Wings on that flight.

Our thoughts and prayers continue for those lost and their families. All of Hockeytown will remember our former teammates and friends…

Dmitri Chesnokov also has a great writeup on the rebuilding process of the team at Puck Daddy, as well as a complete list of all team personnel aboard that flight.

The date of Sept. 7, 2011 will forever be remembered in the hockey world. There will never be any hockey played in the KHL on this day. A number of memorial services and other events are scheduled in Yaroslavl, and at 7 p.m. local time, sweaters of the players who lost their lives a year ago will be raised to the rafters of Arena-2000, Lokomotiv’s home.
