Red Wings place Martin Frk, Nick Jensen, others on Waivers

As we’ve been expecting for a while, the Wings have finally started exposing players to waivers. Here’s the group so far:

As a quick reminder, the Waivers process runs noon-to-noon each day, so every team in the NHL will have the option of making a waiver claim on these players and taking on their contracts for a minimal fee. The only thing that’s close to being a catch here is that it means the team has to be willing to keep that waived player on their 23-man roster going into the season.

The NHL’s roster deadline is Tuesday at 5:00pm ET.

Lashoff, Tangradi, and Callahan are no surprise and will likely clear once again, as they’ve done several years running now. Frk is in his first year of waiver eligibility and there is question, but it’s clear he didn’t make the team. Jensen seems to have lost the three-man race between him, Xavier Ouellet, and Ryan Sproul. I believe he’s the least-likely of those three to be claimed, but we’ll find out tomorrow.

It seems as though Sproul is probably the injury backup for Niklas Kronwall, so it will be interesting to see what happens if/when Kronner gets healthy.

As a reminder, a team isn’t required to assign a player immediately after waivers. They can remain on the roster for up to 30 days before they would have to clear waivers again. Here’s a full primer on how waivers work.

Update: A bunch of non-surprising assignments, according to Gregg Krupa as well

Update 2: Better list from the organization.
