Red Wings vs. Blues Line Combinations, How to Watch, Start Time

Blues Blog: St. Louis Game Time

Both the Wings and the Blues can argue this season that they expected things to go better to this point. The Blues have fired their coach in favor of Mike Yeo taking over but still sit on a four-point and two-team cushion for the playoff race. They’re also just one of two teams currently occupying a playoff spot with a negative goal differential (hi, Ottawa!)

St. Louis isn’t a bad team, but they’re also almost certainly not good enough to be anything but playoff fodder. As the end of February approaches, they have the same hard decisions as the Wings about selling, made all the more difficult by the fact that Kevin Shattenkirk is second only to Vladimir Tarasenko in points this season.

We’ve got a weird late start thanks to NBCSN’s Rivalry Night between two teams that see each other only twice per year now. Detroit and St. Louis used to hate each other plenty. Anymore, this is more of a farewell to the Joe for the Blues.

The Wings will be without Gustav Nyquist tonight, as we’ll learn later today how many games he’s going to get suspended for slashing Jared Spurgeon in the face on Sunday. Thomas Vanek is also questionable with a sore ankle suffered on Saturday. The Blues are riding a four-game winning streak, but will be without Paul Stastny and also deodorant most likely.
