Watch Joe Hicketts’ Two Assists Vs Russia In Canada Russia Super Series Game 1

Joe Hicketts and Team WHL stomped Team Russia last night by a score of 7-3, getting a little payback for Russia beating them in both games last year. Red Wings defensive prospect Joe Hicketts had 2 assists, was on the ice for 4 of his team’s 7 goals and 1 of Russia’s. You can see the full box score here. Here are both of Joe’s assists, both at even strength.

Hicketts spoke with the media after his team’s win and you can watch the full interview here.

Hicketts had a great game, he was physical clearing Russian players away from him goalie, he did a great job of facilitating puck movement into the offensive zone from the back end, largely with his crisp precision passing up to the forwards, and his work on the point in the O zone is beautiful to watch.

Evgeny Svechnikov didn’t play for Russia last night, so I expect him to play tonight in the rematch with Team WHL. This game takes place in Kamloops BC, Joe Hicketts’ hometown, and Joe will be wearing the “C” in front of a myriad of friends and family. Hickett’s is such a great kid that I can’t imagine anyone rooting against him or begrudging good things happening for him. He’s earned every bit of his success so far and playing on this team, in his hometown, in front of friends and family, wearing the well deserved “C”. I couldn’t be more happy for Hicketts, or more proud.

Game 2 is tonight at 10:00 PM EST and should feature Joe Hicketts vs Evgeny Svechnikov. Team Russia has a whole lot of motivation to come out guns blazing after their beating last night, and the Canada – Russia rivalry is always entertaining to watch.
