2014 Winter Olympics: Gustav Nyquist named to Team Sweden Men’s Ice Hockey Team

Hey there, want some good news and for some reason you didn’t read the title?

Google Translate promises me that this means Gustav Nqyuist has been named the replacement for the injured Johan Franzen (concussion) on Sweden’s Olympic Men’s Hockey Team.

Nyquist, 24, has 13 goals and 22 points in 30 games played with the Red Wings this season, including a hat trick in yesterday’s game against the Washington Capitals. In making this trip to his first Olympics, Nyquist beat out other competitors such as Nashville’s Patric Hornqvist, and Washington’s Marcus Johansson.

While I’ve soured a bit on the Olympics this year thanks to Red Wings injuries, I’m happy to see the young Nyquist going and think this should be a positive experience for him. Playing for his country in Sochi should give him heaps of confidence as he comes back and competes for the Wings when all is said and done.

Congratulations to Gustav Nyquist, you deserve it.
