Call It A Comeback – Red Wings 6, Sabres 4

One of my co-workers always asks the question: “Who has more fun than us?”

I have an answer to that. We do. The WIIM faithful. Detroit Red Wings fans.

The first 10 minutes of this game sucked. The rest of the game? Hell yeah. Thomas McCollum got the first NHL win of his career. Henrik Zetterberg made us all pregnant with his sixth career hat trick. The kids kept flying and scoring goals. Drew Miller did good things for J.J.

A nightmare start turned into a fun game. The Wings are now 2nd in the Atlantic with 61 points. They’re only one point behind the Lightning with a game in hand.

FIRST PERIOD

Fuck. Awful start. Down 3-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Drew Stafford scored.

Tyler Ennis scored.

And then Chris Stewart scored on the power play.

SECOND PERIOD

Everything is awesome! Wings tied the game 3-3.

Gustav Nyquist scored on the power play (by hitting his own rebound out of mid-air).

Drew Miller scored (4th line goals are the best kind of goals)

And Tomas Tatar scored.

I’ll actually write something here. The 2nd period was a great change of events. I’m thankful the Red Wings were playing Buffalo tonight. I’ll give some credit to Mike Babcock here. He threw the lines in a blender and it worked. I’m sure the guys were embarrassed after that 1st period too. The obvious key to the comeback was the new top defensive pairing of Brendan Smith and Niklas Kronwall. Quite frankly, this should always be the top pairing. Smith plays his best in this role (e.g. the 2014 playoffs).

THIRD PERIOD

Let’s Go Red Wings
