Quick Hit: The Dylan Larkin Injury Edition

In Red Wings Land

Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin leaves practice following collision; severity still unclear | Detroit News

Coach Jeff Blashill said after practice the Wings would know more about Larkin’s status Wednesday.

Larkin was down momentarily, and skated off under his own power, heading straight to the locker room along with the team trainer.

“He (Larkin) turned up and I’d say curled up with the puck, and kind of just, at the same time, he almost ran into Helmer (Darren Helm) and kind of went into the wall (avoiding a collision with Helm) a little bit,” Blashill said.

Yikes. This is terrible news if the injury ends up being anything severe or significant enough to keep Dylan Larkin off the ice for an extended period of time. The Red Wings are very likely going to be near the bottom of the standings this season, but losing Larkin might just put them at the very bottom.

Around the League

Best- and worst-case scenario for each team in the NHL’s Atlantic Division | Sportsnet

Worst-case scenario: Subpar goaltending and questionable defensive depth has this young team playing from behind far too often, which skews how Yzerman assesses his roster. Frequent losses hurt the team’s collective confidence as the development of Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou and Tyler Bertuzzi stagnates.

The best-case scenario is kind of sad too.
