Joe Veleno, Michael Rasmussen propel Red Wings to Prospect Tournament Championship

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich — The Red Wings are headed to the championship game in the annual Prospects Tournament.

Joe Veleno, the Red Wings 2nd selection in the 1st round of the 2018 NHL Draft, tallied two goals in a 5-0 rout against the New York Rangers. Michael Rasmussen, Zach Gallant, and Axel Holmstrom also picked up a goal a piece. Veleno had a monster game with three points, continuing a showcase of dominance in the tournament. The 18-year-old center is expected to return to the QMJHL this upcoming season. Watching Veleno this tournament has shown me what kind of player he really is — a fleet-footed, creative pivot who will easily transition into the professional level when the time comes. He reminds me a lot of Dylan Larkin. Veleno played alongside Filip Zadina and Michael Rasmussen for much of the final game, giving Red Wings fans a taste of what’s to come.

Here are the highlights, courtesy of the Red Wings:

The Red Wings’ young guns will go head-to-head with the Columbus Blue Jackets at 7pm this evening. You can watch the game on both Fox Sports Go, and the Red Wings website.
