Barf. It was expected by most that going Monday’s game against Nashville that Detroit would have a rough time containing the hot Predators and likely lose. What was not as expected (but probably should have been in hind sight) was an absolute drubbing that saw bad turnovers, bad special teams and bad goaltending. It was painful to watch (especially for those who actually watched the entire game) and possibly represents the low point of the season right now for the Red Wings.  On the good side though, Andreas Athanasiou finally opened his fortune cookie and found out he is a real goal scorer.  Hopefully they will be able to fair better tonight as they travel to New York to take on a Rangers team that is having some struggles of its own.

The Rangers came into this season as a dark horse/trendy pick by some to compete for a spot in the thought to be wide open Metro Division. The additions of Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox, Jacob Trouba and #2 overall pick Kaapo Kakko kicked the Rangers rebuild to ludicrous speed as the went to plaid past other teams stuck in their own rebuild for the last few seasons coughDetroitcough. Unfortunately someone hit the emergency brakes on them shortly after the season so after winning their first two games they spent SIX days combing the desert before they played their third game. They would go on to lose that game and the four after it. The Rangers looked to have righted the ship winning three of their next four (including wins over a cold starting Tampa Bay Lightning and the same Nashville Predators that just dropped a giant Yogurt statue on the Red Wings foot Monday). Hopefully the 6-2 loss to Ottawa on Monday will be the luggage combination the Red Wings need to get back into the win column and stop sucking.
