Game Preview
I won’t lie, when the Detroit Red Wings dropped nine of their first 10 games to start the season, I was set to pre-order my Jack Hughes jersey. But, despite falling 2-1 on Thursday night to the Ottawa Senators, the Wings have been hot, winning seven of their last 10 games to regain some semblance of dignity on the ice.
Amazingly the team has managed to find ways to put the puck in the net (averaging 3.4 goals per game in that span), while tightening things up in the defensive zone (allowing just 2.4 goals against).
These two teams met at the start of the month, which resulted in a 4-3 win for the Wings on home ice. The two key takeaways from their previous matchup was how well the Wings controlled the play — they won 59.3% of faceoffs and had a team CF% of 52.3%. They will need to rinse and repeat if they want more of the same success against a Devils team that has won back-to-back games.
One thing is for certain, the Wings really exercised all their options to even make it to today’s game…

It doesn’t appear anything will be much different from Thursday’s game in Ottawa…

He’s considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury, so we will see if he figures into the lineup at all.
As for the Devils, they hope to get their young center Nico Hischier back after missing the last two games with an upper-body injury. Hischier returned to practice on Friday and will be a game-time call against the Wings.
