Habs blog: Eyes on the Prize

Tonight we finish up our homestand, which has not been going well, with our Atlantic Division pal the Habs. If you elect to participate in the twitter dot com get ready to see a whole lot of cult-like Joe Veleno praise and tired Zadina jokes.

Choose your battles wisely, that’s all I’m saying.

Wings had the night off yesterday, giving time to recover from almost beating the Caps but not managing to finish the job. But defeat is just another form of victory and we still got to witness another blessing from future captain Dylan Larkin with his ridiculous stupid pass to Hronek.

The Habs played the Wild at home last night, so it’s likely we’ll face Niemi tonight given Price’s plans to skip the All-Star game and how they’re clearly trying to give him rest where they can leading into the latter half of the season.

Speaking of injuries – Daley, DeKeyser, and Green are all still out and Rasmussen is not expected back until later this week. However, Helm and Mantha have both come back with a vengeance so that’s something. Even when we’re at home, playing the Habs always gets at least Mickey Redmond excited for Anthony “The Big Frenchman” Mantha to do something great.

Hurt feelings and wounded pride are not included in injury reports, so I can only speculate that Jimmy is running out of breakables to smash and that the Blashspot continues to safely siphon rage out of Blash’s brain to prevent him from jumping the boards and slapping people with a clipboard.

How are things in Habs land? Other than the whole Carey Price may at any point dissolve into a puddle of crystalized maple syrup snowflakes and drift away on a gentle breeze, they seem cautiously optimistic they can claw their way into a playoff spot. The Atlantic is a tough division, and I’m not just saying that to make us feel better, but they could squeak in.

Also, Tomas Tatar will probably score on us so just take the day to emotionally brace for that.

Let’s remember our job this season is to spoil the hopes and dreams of rival teams while gaining nothing but smug satisfaction and #TankAngst as we watch our odds of first pick dwindle.

LET’S GO RED WINGS!
