Keys to the Game
Harness the Energy
At times this season the Red Wings have looked like a team of racehorses running circles around the other team. Most of the time however they have looked like a wild horse that has a ton of speed but no idea how to use it. They have to remember how to utilize the energy and speed they have effectively and efficiently. Guys are trying to do so much at one time they are losing edges and sliding like Bambi on ice all over the place or skating themselves into turnovers. They have to figure out to harness their energy and use all of their gears on the ice, not just the top ones.
Special Teams
Both teams are middle to middle bottom of the league on the power play and in the bottom ten in the league on the penalty kill. One of the ways to get a sputtering offense going is through the power play, and while it has not produced consistent results yet, the Red Wings power play has looked dangerous at times. Nashville has a lot of offensive weapons and has been on a scoring surge recently. If the Red Wings hope to win they are going to have to stay out of the box and find some ways to take advantage when they have the man advantage because a purely five on five matchup does not favor the Red and White.
Stay the Course
This could be more of a key for the season, but they must continue to keep their head up, stay focused and push on. As we have all seen, this is not a team that is going to be competitive on most nights if it does not bring close to its best. That is a tough situation to be in and can wear on even the toughest of competitors. They have to find that motivation to continue to compete every shift.
