There were quite a few games played over the weekend, and in the group of prospects who did pretty well, Anthony Mantha was the star of the show. There is one prospect who’s missing from this report because I’m having some difficulty finding the information I need. Hampus Melen has played 4 games and has 4 assists, but I haven’t yet been able to find any box scores, recaps, video, or anything else useful to give his performances context. On to the prospects I do have information about…
OHL
Barrie Colts: Andreas Athanasiou

Thursday, September 26th Andreas Athanasiou and the Barrie Colts visited Zach Nastasiuk and the Owen Sound Attack. I was able to listen to the last period of this game on the radio. Athanasiou had 2 assists and was a +1 and Nastasiuk was a -1 and had 2 PIM. Zach did “have a goal” in the 3rd period, but it was called back because upon review/ref confab it was determined that the goal post was off when the puck crossed the line. They had a lot of trouble with that net coming off it’s moorings all night. Athanasiou sounded like he was using his speed all night, and got a breakaway opportunity but was checked from behind severely before he could get a shot away. The player who illegally checked him (Gabor) received a 5 minute major and a game misconduct, which the Colts scored on less than a minute later. There was also a strange penalty late in the 3rd period when the teams were supposed to be playing 4 on 4, but the Sound somehow managed to play for at least a shift with 5 men on the ice. The ref’s called it a 2 minute minor for “illegal substitution”. Highlights Video / Colts Recap / Sound Recap / Box Score /
Friday, September 27th: Athanasiou was a -4 and had 2 PIM in a 5-3 loss. Video Highlights / Box Score / Colts Recap /

Sunday September 29th:Bertuzzi had a PP goal and 4 PIM in a 6-3 win. I got to listen to this game, and Bertuzzi sounded like Tyler bounced between playing well with the puck and creating some chances for his team (and scoring the goal of course) to not doing so well, losing the puck, and the second penalty he took ( a high sticking penalty during a scrum) actually took his team off the powerplay. It sounded like an up and down game for Bertuzzi. Video Highlights (Guelph in white jerseys) / Box Score / Storm Recap

Mantha was also named the QJMHL first star of the week. He still leads the league in goals and points.
The first star of the week is awarded to Val-d’Or Foreurs forward Anthony Mantha. The first round pick of the Detroit Red Wings recorded 3 assists last Wednesday for a +/- of +2 in a 7-4 win against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. On Friday, in a road game in Blainville-Boisbriand, he was named the third star of the game with an assist. Saturday, in an 11-2 win against the Quebec Remparts, he scored 4 goals, on only 8 shots, for a total of 5 points, which tied his career high in the QMJHL in terms of points and goals. For his exceptional performance he was named the first star of the game. Moreover, he is the 5th player in the history of the club to score 4 goals or more in a road game (the record is still held by Jerome Bergeron with 5 in 2000-01). So far in the 2013-14 season, he has a total of 8 goals and 6 assists for a total of 14 points in 5 games, which places him in first place in the League scoring, tied with Christopher Clapperton of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and Cameron Darcy of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
