Quick Hits: Daniel Alfredsson To Retire On December 4th?

Red Wings News

Report: Alfredsson retirement to be announced Dec. 4 | ProHockeyTalk
I wish he would have been able to give it another go this season. I guess it is not over until the fat lady sings, or rather, until Alfie actually says its over.

Red Wings’ Pavel Datsyuk getting closer to return but status to be determined after morning skate | MLive.com
Datsyuk is a game-time decision for tonight’s game against the Flyers. If he does play, Jurco appears to be the player who will be scratched to make room for his return. In the long-run, I would rather have Andersson scratched than Jurco.

Detroit Red Wings prospect Dylan Larkin heads up The Hot List | The Hockey News
Dylan Larkin is receiving national praise for his play with the Wolverines this season.

Gustav Nyquist showing he’s no one-season wonder for Detroit Red Wings | Detroit Free Press
Nyquist is only going to continue to develop and prove that he is a star in the NHL. He may never become the player Zetterberg or Datsyuk is, but, he is going to be an extremely productive player for the Wings for a long time to come.

Griffins Take On Amerks, Flames In Week Away From Home | Grand Rapids Griffins
The Griffins play the Rochester Americans tonight and on Friday, before playing the Adirondack Flames on Saturday.

Also, here’s a hilarious GIF of Babcock during the game against the Senators.

Maple Leafs, Rangers, Canadiens all billion dollar organizations according to Forbes | The Hockey News
Forbes has released its latest NHL franchise valuations. Two new franchises have surpassed the $1 billion mark: the Rangers and the Canadiens (the Leafs still are the most valuable franchise at $1.3 billion). The Red Wings were valued at $570 million, making them the ninth most valuable NHL franchise. The Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, and Panthers are the three least valuable franchises, with the Panthers being the only NHL franchise valued under $200 million ($190 million).

Evgeni Malkin celebrates Marc-Andre Fleury’s 300th win by calling him awful – SBNation.com
I am sure that Malkin is just being sarcastic, but, he certainly makes it sound as if Fleury is a terrible goaltender who shouldn’t be playing in this league.

Inside Sweden’s tiny hockey factory – Sportsnet.ca
The Swedish city of Örnsköldsvik, home to the Swedish hockey team Modo, has produced some of the best Swedish hockey players of this past generation, including Forsberg, Näslund, and the Sedin twins.

The Best Undrafted Players in NHL History | The Hockey Writers
I do not know about you, but, I miss Rafalski. That guy was just so good, and I think we under appreciated him and his play because we already had Lidström and Kronwall.

Subban, Price, and Crosby have early lead in All-Star voting | TSN
I hope that either Tatar or Nyquist is voted into the All-Star game. I doubt it, but, you never know.

30 Thoughts: Is Todd McLellan on the hot seat? – Sportsnet.ca
The Sharks have been very close to firing McLellan since last season. The former Wings’ assistant coach may now have finally met the end of the line in San Jose. If he does get fired, he should not have a problem finding a job with a different team. He’s a good coach.

NHL power rankings: Blackhawks, Blues move up; Oilers fall – SBNation.com
The Wings were ranked 12th, with the Blues taking the top spot and the Sabres the bottom spot.

Welcome to the trade rumor mill, Florida Panthers veterans | ProHockeyTalk
If the Panthers were willing to retain a portion of his salary, I would not mind the Wings making a move for Brian Campbell. Despite the fact that he shoots left, Campbell would turn the Wings’ defense into one that could compete for a Cup. I would move Jurco, Kindl, and a first round draft pick for him.

5 NHL players who could draw trade notice | For The Win
None of these players are anywhere near “star” status. Drew Stafford and Jeff Petry are the two best players on the list.

Leafs, Canucks to honor Pat Quinn on their uniforms | The Hockey News

Nice gesture by the Leafs and the Canucks.

Let’s Go Red Wings!
