Quick Hits: Blues GM Fires Best Friend And Calls Out Team; Blashill Addresses Wings Junk Effort

The Big Story

Armstrong rips into Blues after firing his ‘best friend’ | NBC Sports

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong gave an emotional and blunt interview after firing his “best friend” Ken Hitchcock on Wednesday. Armstrong, who had Mike Yeo ready to take over for Hitchcock after the 2016-17 NHL season, has apparently decided to speed up the process.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that Armstrong seemingly appeared to take most of the blame for the Blues recent struggles along with citing the lack of team effort in St. Louis. Perhaps Ken Holland could take note and have a piece of Armstrong’s humble pie.

In Red Wings Land

Jeff Blashill Rips Red Wings For “Junk” Effort After Critical Lapse Versus Devils | CBS Detroit

Say what you will about Jeff Blashill, but at least he doesn’t sugarcoat describing a terrible performance by his team. The Red Wings were pretty much terrible for the most part against the Devils on Tuesday evening, once again leaving more questions that need to be answered.

Can Blashill coach his players up to the level they need to be performing at? Or maybe there just aren’t enough elite-level players in Detroit for the team to rise to that next level. I’m sure Henrik Zetterberg is tired of placing the blame on himself.
