Red Wings News

Weiss heading in right direction after second surgery | Red Wings Front
Stephen Weiss is a talented hockey player. While he has basically not been healthy for two straight seasons, you do not just lose your talent. If Weiss is healthy to start the season, I think he can put up some decent numbers. At least I hope that he can.

Steve Moore now seeking $68 million in Todd Bertuzzi suit | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports
This trial is so sad is so many ways. Obviously, it is a shame that Moore was never able to play again due to his injuries, but, at the same time, I cannot help but feel sympathetic towards Bertuzzi. The two sides will probably end up settling for somewhere around the $25 -$35 million range, because Moore certainly has a winning case, it is just a matter of how much he could have earned had he been able to play.

NHL Free Agency: GMs show restraint, sign more good deals than bad – CBSSports.com
I actually disagree with this. Sure, some deals, such as the Ehrhoff one, were overall pretty decent, but there were still a lot of bad contracts given to players. The Orpik, Niskanen, and Engelland deals may be the most notable, but the Stralman and Bolland contracts were quite overpriced as well. The contracts may not have been as bad as some that we have seen during the past few years, but there were still a lot of bad ones this free agency period.

Puck Daddy’s 2014 NHL Free Agent Report Card | Puck Daddy – Yahoo Sports
Wyshysnki was not happy with the Wings’ free agency outing either, giving the team a “D-“. He gave the Sharks an “F”.

Report: Leafs agree to one-year deal with KHL star Petri Kontiola – CBSSports.com
Kontiola has scored 175 points in 258 games in the KHL. Those are not bad numbers to put up in that league.

Report: Ottawa talking to Flyers about Lecavalier | ProHockeyTalk
Lecavalier is no where near the player that he was ten years ago, yet he has a contract that makes it seem as if he still was.
