Quick Hits: Henrik Sedin’s 1000th Point, Mrazek’s Return to Form

The Big Story

Henrik Sedin Scores 1000th NHL Point – By: Kevin Woodley: NHL.com

A big congratulations to Henrik Sedin, who became the first player to reach 1000 points solely in a Canucks jersey Friday night. It couldn’t have been more perfect of a play, either. Daniel Sedin fed Henrik, who beat good friend and former Canuck Roberto Luongo for the goal in front of the Canuck faithful at Rogers Arena.

From the article:

“I don’t know if you can really envision it,” Henrik said. “Everything was good about it. We got a big win. It was nice [Edler] and Danny had the helpers. They’ve played for a long time and are two good friends. That was special. I think the best part by far was my teammates coming out on the ice and celebrating with me. That’s something I will remember forever.”

Just for comparison, Daniel Sedin currently sits at 968 points and will probably cross the 1000 point threshold sometime early next season. While it doesn’t look like either Sedin twin will be hoisting the Cup anytime soon, they’ve both had spectacular careers in Vancouver.

In Red Wings Land

Red Wings’ Petr Mrazek showing signs of former self after two strong outings – By: Brendan Savage: MLive

Well it’s about time. Petr Mrazek has had a rough stretch dating back to mid-February of last year. He’s played some good games in there during that time, but he’s hardly been as good as the Wings need him to be, especially this season. Perhaps that’s starting to change. Two great outings might just be the turning point he and the Wings were in desperate need of.

From the article:

“I feel great,” said Mrazek, who watched Coreau make three straight starts before he got the nod vs. the Sabres. “I think if you look at the last five-six games, I think I got better overall and everything. Just keep going and getting better.

And Jeff Blashill had a few comments regarding Mrazek’s game:

“I think he’s trending in the right direction,” said coach Jeff Blashill, whose team hosts the Rangers at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. “Even games where he’s given up more goals than he wants to and we want him to, I think he’s still played real well and he looks like he’s on top of his game.

“He’s got a swagger, he’s on top of the crease, he’s making lots of good plays. I think he’s certainly trending in the right direction.”

Hopefully Mrazek’s play continues to improve as we move through the second half of the season. Show everyone why you’re the Wings’ #1 goalie, Petr!
