Quick Hits: The Julien Fries Edition

The Big Story

Claude Julien still not worried about Bruins firing him – Puck Daddy

The dumber things get in Boston, the closer we get to the B’s giving the Islanders their next head coach and the more we get to hear an increasingly-frustrated Julien deal with the “shock journalism” of the collective Boston media asking him to narrate the path to his own firing.

From the article:

The two things that seem entrenched about the Julien situation now are seemingly inevitability about his firing emanating from the Boston media and an even louder declaration from the hockey world that this situation isn’t his fault, or that firing him wouldn’t make it better.

Yep. Pretty much.

In Red Wings Land

Young assets reason why Red Wings waived Drew Miller – Helene St. James: Freep

It feels weird essentially celebrating what may be the quiet end of Drew Miller’s Red Wings career. Miller was my personal unsung favorite among the grinders that better Red Wings teams had a use for and the current Red Wings team unfairly leaned on. Miller is super-easy to root for, as we’ve seen his fun side and know he’s a hard worker willing to do whatever it takes to help his teammates.

However, with the team needing to commit to not taking the easy way out when it comes to making roster space at the expense of waiver-exempt youngsters, it was honestly a relief as a fan to see Ken Holland make this decision.

From the article:

“Drew wants to play, so here is an opportunity potentially if there is another suitor out there,” coach Jeff Blashill said. “There are some young assets that we have here that I think there is still potential.

“With that said, I’ve got tons of confidence in Drew Miller as a hockey player.”

Part of me doesn’t want him claimed because I think he’d bring valuable experience and his hockey IQ to Grand Rapids, but the guy deserves a shot anywhere it would be given.
