We are crawling into our favorite time of the year… When the NHL essentially goes dark and news is hard to come by. Here’s what we’ve got today…
Red Wings Rumblings
MLive’s Ansar Khan published a column this week that projected what Detroit’s lineup would look like come opening night. Click here to read for yourself, but in the meantime, here’s what Khan projects:
Perron-Larkin-DeBrincat
Rasmussen-Copp-Raymond
Fabbri-Compher-Sprong
Kostin-Veleno-Berggren
Fischer
Walman-Seider
Maatta-Gostisbehere
Chiarot-Holl
Lindstrom
Husso-Reimer
Players missing the cut
Elmer Soderblom, Marco Kasper, Simon Edvinsson, Albert Johansson, Alex Lyon
Not a terrible projection from Khan in my opinion. I don’t know if I’m sold on Rasmussen as a second-line winger. I’d personally like to see Jonatan Berggren in that role. Jury is still out on Reimer. I’m still putting my chips down on Lyon being the backup.
Yahoo Sports puts Detroit’s prospect pool at no. 3 in the NHL
Ian Kennedy posted this article putting the Wings’ system behind Buffalo and Columbus, respectively. Kennedy mentioned Edvinsson, Kasper and Cossa as the top three prospects and mentioned some other names like Nate Danielson, Axel Sandin-Pellikka and Amadeus Lombardi. Kennedy believes the Wings are in “excellent standing” for the future.

Four teams who could face big waiver wire decisions: The Hockey News
Some interesting names are on this list.. That includes NJD’s Akira Schmid. It also mentioned the Columbus Blue Jackets, who will be coached by former Red Wing bench boss Mike Babcock. We all know how Babcock is with younger players and the ol’ “tie goes to the veteran” mantra. Whether he adheres to that philosphy still is yet to be seen.. But there could be some interesting opportunities on the waiver wire in the weeks and months ahead.
