Red Wings & Golden Knights: Mock Salary Cap Trade – THW

TW: To confirm, the Red Wings will be sending Bernier—with 30 percent of his salary retained—and Hicketts for Fleury and a 2021 first-round pick. Deal?

MV: If we swap the 2021 first for a 2022 first, then we have a deal.

TW: Deal.

I hated the last trade with the Lightning that I threw in here. This one brings MAF for two years at $7M, but it gets us a first in the draft AFTER next.

Around the NHL

Sources: Canadian-based NHL teams may play in United States due to issues with health authorities – ESPN

The NHL had been hoping to play a 56-game season starting Jan. 13 with teams playing in their own arenas. That plan included divisional realignment and an all-Canadian division — necessary because the U.S.-Canada border remains closed to nonessential business. However, provincial health authorities in Canada have challenged some of the NHL’s proposed protocols, which could force a change.

If I had to guess which side wanted things to be MORE conservative than the other, then I’m guessing the Canadian authorities would be the roadblock to that. Although maybe it could be that the NHL is trying to strongarm Canada into giving their players vaccines earlier (like the Flames did with the H1N1 vaccine).

At any rate, I think we can all agree that the best solution for making all the Canadian teams play in the US is to relocate Montreal to Colorado, Vancouver to Seattle, Winnipeg AND Calgary to Atlanta and then everybody else can play in the ocean. They should still be the all-Canadian division though.
