That was a really bad hit for McAvoy to make. His suspension was upheld, and the reason I’m stashing this under Red Wings News is that Boston is now going to have to sit their top D-man for their game against us this weekend. McAvoy had what would become the game winning goal in their 4-1 win over us last weekend…

Per Mike Sullivan, the Penguins will mandate neck protection for their AHL and ECHL teams. No hard mandate can be made at the NHL level but they will heavily recommend such a measure.

Big stick-tap to the Pens on this one. In the wake of Adam Johnson’s unfortunate and tragic passing, I saw a lot of “a neck guard wouldn’t have done him any good”. THIS is how you remedy that. Get more people using them. That drives companies to make better ones that provide good balances of protection and mobility. When the lower leagues have good equipment and the players there have grown up using it, it’ll make its way into the NHL. We love a dangerous sport, folks… but there’s no reason it should be a lethal one.
