Red Wings’ Goaltending is Holding Them Back

The Detroit Red Wings’ goaltending duo of Ville Husso and James Reimer has left much to be desired early on in the season.

Goaltending isn’t the whole picture – the defense is giving up some Grade A chances too. It feels unfair to expect goalies to come up big every time the defense collapses, but… that’s kinda what goalies are for. Even considering the defensive woes, Husso’s numbers don’t look great. Reimer has better numbers, but we’ve all watched him let in softies (not to mention ducking out of the way of yesterday’s OT winner). No goalie is going to be perfect, but somebody needs to be better.

I will PayPal Patrick Kane exactly $0.20 to sign anywhere but Detroit. Even taking the personality stuff out of the equation, I’m just not sure where the fit is with the Wings. I doubt he’s still top-line material, I’m skeptical that we really have a top-line replacement if we moved him AND DeBrincat to the 2nd line, and I think Edmonton and Toronto are great lessons in building a complete team instead of a top-heavy one that tries to outscore its mistakes.
