Red Wings Rumblings
Huge weekend for Detroit’s two top goalie prospects.
Sebastian Cossa’s hot streak continues. He earned the win Saturday night in Rockford (4-3 decision), extending his point streak to 15 games (10-0-5), and tying a franchise record that hasn’t been touched since 2002. Marco Kasper also picked up a couple of points. An all-around impressive season for several of Detroit’s prospects in Grand Rapids.
Meanwhile, Trey Augustine helped his Michigan State Spartans to a Big Ten title with an OT win over Michigan. Augustine was awared “Most Outstanding Player” in the Big Ten Tournament:
Five reasons the Red Wings are a playoff team
Pretty interesting read here, whether you agree or not. Let’s not forget that many people (including me) had Detroit as a fringe wild card team at best when the season started. Now, if they do get into the playoffs, they’ll have a really difficult matchup in the first round. There chances are slim to make it to the second round, but I think most of us can agree that snapping the playoff drought would be a good thing for this team.
Unfortunately, as of now, the Wings are out of a playoff spot. Washington is a point ahead of Detroit with a game in hand — making tomorrow’s game even more pivotal.
There is some good news, though.. The New Jersey Devils shutout the Islanders last night. So for now, the Isles continue to slide behind the race. Still, that means New Jersey is creeping up, just one point behind of the Islanders. Detroit has a game in hand over the Devils.
