Red Wings WJC Update: Danielson, Canada Stunned; Augustine Backs Up as USA Rolls; Sandin Pellikka Scores OT Winner for Hosts Sweden – Sam Stockton, The Hockey News

Most eyes will be on Augustine and ASP moving forward, with Bicker and the rest of Team Germany fighting relegation and Team Canada bounced unceremoniously despite Danielson’s efforts. Augustine has posted some fantastic stats thru two games in the tournament, and ASP is doing ASP things. Tune in if you can and keep an eye on these guys. Games resume Thursday.

Around The League

Making just shy of $7 million AAV on his current contract, this kind of bump would eat up most or all of the expected salary cap increase for next season for the Leafs. You can make the argument that this is addition by lack of subtraction, aka not being forced to move productive guys out just to stay cap compliant, but there are also 4 RFAs and another 7 UFA spots for the Leafs to worry about next season. I don’t think Nylander eating up the entirety of their new cap space will make them any worse, but unless they can prove otherwise with some shrewd defensive moves I don’t think they’ll get any better than they already are from this. It’s an opportunity to gain ground over the offseason (on paper, at least) against a divisional opponent.
