Red Wings call up Landon Ferraro

(don’t read the mentions to this tweet if you value your mental health)

Surprise! Just in time for St. Patrick’s day! A magical leprechaun swings by ye olde Joe Louis Arena to hand out his next batch of injuries! What will it be this time? A concussion? Upper-body? NO! What else would it be, but a lovely lower-body injury wrapped with a giant green bow. Don’t follow the leprechaun to the end of the rainbow.. It will only lead you to a pot o’ gold! Except instead of gold, this magical cauldron is filled with turds, and ANGUISH!

Ferraro, 22, has appeared in 60 games with the Griffins this season, ranking among team leaders with 13 goals (T4th), 15 assists (T8th), 28 points (T7th) and 161 shots on goal (3rd). The Trail, B.C., native led Grand Rapids in goals last season, finishing third on the team with 47 points (24-23-47) to help the Griffins to their first-ever Calder Cup championship. A third-year pro, Ferraro has skated in 190 career AHL games, recording 95 points (46-49-95) and 135 penalty minutes. Originally drafted by Detroit in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-foot, 179-lb., center recorded 152 points (76-76-152) and 270 penalty minutes in 220 WHL games with the Red Deer Rebels and Everett Silvertips prior to turning professional in 2011-12.

Ferraro could become the seventh player to make his NHL debut for Detroit this season when the Red Wings host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. (FOX Sports Detroit/97.1 The Ticket). Detroit will also host Pittsburgh on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. before a home-and-home set with the Minnesota Wild this weekend, visiting the Wild on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. EDT and returning to Joe Louis Arena for a Sunday rematch at 7:30 p.m.
