A confident puck-moving defenseman who can play a composed game even in high-pressure situations, he makes smart decisions with the puck and it’s a trait that hasn’t gone unnoticed. Mobile despite his size, he has a powerful skating stride and good top speed. Can make smart and accurate breakout passes to teammates and rarely makes mistakes when it comes to moving the puck up the ice. Defensively sound and can be relied upon on the penalty kill because of his great gap control. Uses an active stick to break up plays in his own zone. Known for jumping in offensively, he’s very mobile and knows an opportunity when he sees one.

Seider’s offensive prowess appears limited, although he has shown confidence and reliability withhis puck carrying. You rarely see him painted into a corner, and he uses smart dump-ins or lobs to buy additional time. He likes to join the rush and will venture well into the circles or slot as a trailer.He owns an excellent shot, both for its velocity and accuracy. He isn’t your classic power-play quarterback, but he has soft hands to handle crisp, cross-ice passes and hammer one-timers on net. Steve Yzerman made a reach with this pick. Seider hasn’t had much traction with the media this season, so it’s hard to say what he might be. As many analysts have said on the NBCSN broadcast, this is a shocker pick, considering that players like Trevor Zegras was on the board.

Bob McKenzie noted that he is a strong-skating defenseman that can chip in offensively, and play a responsible game defensively. Many analysts have compared him to Brandon Carlo.

Yzerman told NBCSN that they like him as a big defenseman that can skate, and that the team is excited to get him. After Kathryn Tappen asked him how he could get the team back on track, he deflected with “it’s going to take a lot of time.”
