Red Wings recall Eric Tangradi, Nick Jensen, Assign Joakim Andersson to AHL

DETROIT, MICH — The Red Wings Twitter account announced that the organization have recalled Eric Tangradi and Nick Jensen, while Joakim Andersson will be assigned to Grand Rapids:

There were quotes out there from yesterday that Andersson was placed on waivers to clear up space so that the team could call someone up. With the recent injury of Niklas Kronwall, the Wings now have seven defensemen after this transaction. No word on if anyone is injured else has been injured on defense as of yet. My guess is that Brendan Smith is banged up pretty bad from the last stretch of games. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get a few games of rest to put him on the mend.

Eric Tangradi is an interesting case. He leads Grand Rapids in scoring, but is currently boasting a shooting percentage of 18.6%, which is quite unsustainable. He’s never found true success at the NHL level, but he adds that size and sandpaper that teams love to have at this time of the year.

There’s one game left for the Red Wings in the month of January. If i’m a betting man, I’d bet that these guys will make their debut with the Red Wings soon.
