Red Wings Set To Have Rivalry Era Alumni Game Against Avalanche

With the announcement of pre-sale ticket information for the 2016 Coors Light Stadium Series game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche, it was also released that there would be an alumni game to precede the outdoor event. But not just any alumni game.. THE alumni game.

From the Avalanche website:

The Alumni Game will feature players from both the Avalanche and Red Wings who competed during the “rivalry era” from 1996-2002. The list of participants from the Avalanche include Hockey Hall-of-Famers Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy, Peter Forsberg and Rob Blake, while the list of attendees for the Red Wings include Hall-of-Famers Chris Chelios, Brendan Shanahan and Igor Larionov, as well as soon-to-be Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom. More participants will be announced in the future.

We all know the story here, but here’s a good video that will take you on a trip down memory lane:

Now it’s unlikely that we’ll see this happening since everyone is an old fart nowadays, but with so much history between the two groups of hockey legends, this is going to be a sight to see. Darren McCarty still has some gas left in the tank, right? C’mon Darren, start a little something with Roy for old time’s sake.
