Red Wings Trade Rumors: Patrick Wiercioch available for cheap, Senators need center depth

Senators general manager Bryan Murray told TSN that the team will be shutting down Kyle Turris, and is looking to acquire a centerman. Many rumors have been floating around impending-RFA defenseman Patrick Wiercioch. Could this be a potential trade candidate for the Red Wings?

Wiercioch isn’t a flashy defenseman by any means, but he’s touted as a strong two-way defenseman with a solid set of hands. Wiercioch is paid $2 million currently, and his contract is up at the end of the season where he will be a restricted free agent. This gives Detroit a player that they could keep around for some time at a likable price. Since the Red Wings have a slew of depth at center, there is a strong possibility that this could work.

Players to consider:

Darren Helm, Riley Sheahan, Brad Richards

Could this happen? Perhaps. Ottawa seems to be selling extremely low on Patrick Wiercioch:

Bryan Murray told TSN he has had plenty of calls this morning, and remains set on a player that can bolster their depth down the middle. Do you trade for a guy like Patrick Wiercioch?
