Red Wings trade Steve Ott to Canadiens for 2018 draft pick

DETROIT, Mich — The Red Wings continue the sell mode, trading forward Steve Ott to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2018 6th round pick:

Ken Holland kicks off the final hours of the NHL trade deadline day with a banger, trading a 4th line grinder for a decent asset.

Ott was signed as a free agent during the summer, and put up six points in 42 games. This news breaks while the Red Wings are in action against the Vancouver Canucks, oddly enough, the team let up a game-tying goal during the news.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Canadiens moved forward David Desharnais to Edmonton for Brandon Davison. Ott will now slate as a piece of Montreal’s 4th line.

There is not doubt that Red Wings fans will rejoice in this transaction. While it is not a high pick, Ken Holland managed to flip a free agent “sandpaper” signing for a draft pick in a deep draft. Ott will now leave an open spot for another forward to be moved up from Grand Rapids, locking in the youth movement for the remainder for the 2016-2017 regular season.

With all that being said, I’ll just leave this here:
