Jeff Blashill is the 27th coach in Red Wings history, following the recent departure of Mike Babcock who left for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He spent three years with the Red Wings AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins bolstering a record of 134-71-23. The Southfield-born coach won one Calder Cup trophy with Grand Rapids, the Clark Cup in the USHL with Indiana, and appeared in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with Western Michigan.

Jeff Blashill is now the second-youngest coach in the NHL after New Jersey hired John Hynes from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre Penguins.
