The NHL Awards Show will take place Thursday night in Las Vegas, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Versus or 8:30 p.m. EDT on CBC. A few Red Wings players will have a chance to take home an award (or even more), but who will win and which honors will they earn? Bruce MacLeod of Red Wings Corner breaks down the Wings’ finalists.
Pavel Datsyuk — The Russian forward is up for four awards: Hart, Pearson, Lady Byng, and Selke.
Nicklas Lidstrom — Detroit’s captain will look to capture his seventh Norris Trophy, but faces a tough challenge with the Capitals‘ Mike Green and Boston’s Zdeno Chara.
Chris Chelios — The veteran defenseman could earn this year’s Masterton.
Please vote in the poll below and tell us why you selected those players (or none of them) to bring home some hardware.
Personally I think Datsyuk will take home the Selke and possibly the Pearson, but Lidstrom and Chelios will miss out. I believe, however, that Lidstrom should win because he is still the best defenseman out there. Craig Custance of Sporting News believes that if the media voted on the Norris winner today, Lidstrom would win. Thanks to strong regular season performances from Green and Chara, it doesn’t look good for the Wings’ captain.
