Islanders Blog: Lighthouse Hockey
Whelp, the Red Wings tried to steal one last night from Pittsburgh but they somehow forgot that Phil Kessel plays for the Penguins and that there are three periods in a hockey game. There is no rest for the Red Wings though as they are right back at it again tonight in New York against the Islanders.
After showing improvement over the last couple seasons, including winning the team’s first playoff series since they made it to the conference finals of the 1992-93 season, the Islanders find themselves in last place in the Eastern Conference. Losing the likes of Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo and Matt Martin put a big dent in the Islanders forward group and more pressure on John Tavares. All that said, the Islanders welcome the Red Wings into the Barclays having won their last three games and just six points out of a playoff spot and three points behind the Red Wings. The Red Wings have had issues playing a full 60 minutes this season and after a fast paced game last night with the Penguins they are going to have to dig deep tonight into those reserve tanks in order to get two points out in Brooklyn.
