The Detroit Red Wings hope it’s not a sign of things to come when they start the regular season in a week.

The Red Wings will need a plan for the regular season that’s different from whatever the heck they were doing last night. That game against the Maple Leafs was not fun to watch. I’m just glad the preseason is finally over and we can get to the games that actually count.

Reason to believe: They have some young forwards who took steps forward last season, including Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou and Tyler Bertuzzi. Filip Zadina could start making more of an impact as an offensive tool on the wing. Steve Yzerman is running the ship after building a perennial contender in Tampa Bay.
